2010 Gratitude Challenge - day 11

Today is Veterans Day. So today we are thankful for those that have served. We also thank those that still are in Active Duty and in harms way, who won't get to spend this Christmas and the holiday season with their families. Some will not return. Whether you support the wars we fight as a country or not, Armed men and women serve no matter what and have earned our support.

Also so thankful to those at home, many who are spouses. Four come to mind right away. Three of those have kids with additional special needs. There are many who serve through other avenues such as Soldiers' Angels and other organizations the work tirelessly to encourage and support our troops.

You are right about how hard it is on families, especially those with special needs! The parents left behind have to be both Mom and Dad while dealing with the uncertainty over the safety of their loved one.

In fact, when Steve traveled often, people would try to throw me a pity party. I honestly told them that I knew where he was and I knew he was relatively safe and would be home soon. "It's not like he's deployed for six months." They looked at me like I was nuts, but really there is no comparison.
